Quantumness of correlations and entanglement are different resources    [PDF]

We investigate the nature and the resource power of correlations in hybrid qubit-oscillator states for quantum communication. The considered states can be maximally entangled while their geometric discord, a measure of general quantumness of correlations, is found to be limited by the purity of the system. We design two protocols that take advantage of either type of correlation, a hybrid teleportation which can run with unit fidelity via maximum entanglement, and a remote state preparation whose performance is upper bounded by the amount of geometric discord, thus being limited despite the availability of maximum entanglement. Geometric discord and entanglement are thus exposed as inequivalent resources: Different communication scenarios can function exploiting one ignoring the other, and vice versa. Comparisons with other quantumness measures are discussed.
