In this paper we present a new highly efficient calculation method for the far field amplitude patterns that arise from scattering problems governed by the d-dimensional Helmholtz equation. The method is based upon a reformulation of the standard real-valued Green's function integral expression for the far field amplitude to a complex contour. On this complex contour the scattered wave can be calculated very efficiently using the iterative multigrid method, resulting in a fast and scalable calculation of the far field mapping. The full complex contour approach is successfully validated on model problems in two and three spatial dimensions.
